The atelier opens on the rue de la Boétie on a Tuesday in September. Adèle Joude is twenty-nine. She has left Madame Grès for a house of her own — without capital, without advertising.
The name — Ressemblance — comes from a word she uses constantly: the piece must resemble you. For her, that is the only measure.

Seventy-nine gestures.
A single piece, nine pairs of hands, three days' wait.
A dress never leaves the atelier without having been touched by nine people. The cutter-measurer lays the cloth, measures twice — never once.
Three days' wait between assembly and finishing — so the cloth can relax. The finisher signs the certificate of origin.
